ABSTRACT

Breast cancer in young women has low early diagnosis rate, high malignancy degree, poor prognosis, and patients have a strong desire to breast conserving. Therefore, it has become a research topic of widespread. To discuss the disease characteristics and rational treatment for breast cancer in young women (BCYW), use PubMed search engine to seek the document literature in BCYW aged under 40 years old over past 10 years. And the latest research achievement in adjuvant systemic therapy of young women less than 40 years of age with early invasive breast cancer has been published by several important multicenter prospective randomized controlled trials, including the Trial Assigning Individualized Options for Treatment, the Suppression of Ovarian Function trial and the Tamoxifen and Exemestane trial. In the meantime, to review the international consensus guidelines for BCYW founded by the European School of Oncology and the European Society of Medical Oncology, the clinical practice guidelines of National Comprehensive Cancer Network and American Society of Clinical Oncology for breast cancer, and the newest update in these guidelines.

ABSTRACT

Objective To discuss the diagnosis and treatment of the solid pseudopapillary tumor of the pancreas(SPTP). Methods Six consecutive cases operated in our hospital from Aug. 2008 to Apr. 2010were reviewed. Results Those cases aged ranging from 17 to 31 years, with an average age of 21.8 years. The maximal dimension of tumor ranged from 6.6 to 13.0 cm, averaging 8.2 cm. Those tumors originated from pancreatic head (2), and body or tail (4). Abdominal B-ultrasound or CT scan examination disclosed that pancreas had solid-cystic mass in 4 cases, and the other two had solidmass. All tumors were resected completely and defined pathologically. We performed 5 open operations, including pancreaticoduodenectomy (2 cases), spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy (2 cases) and distal pancreatectomy plus splenectomy (1 case). One case underwent laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy plus splenectomy. Conclusions The young females are more likely suffered from the SPTP than others, which usually has a clear boundary and large volume. The abdominal B-ultrasound and CT scan are important diagnostic methods. The surgical modality of pancreatectomy is dependent on the tumor's location and extent, furthermore the resectability of SPTP is high. It is possible to perform a spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy for tumors located in pancreatic body or tail.

ABSTRACT

Objective To discuss how to improve the current status on clinical therapy for advanced gastric carcinoma. Methods Related literatures searched on Medline were collected and reviewed. Results The 5th edition of UICC/AJCC TNM staging system of gastric carcinoma is useful to evaluate the prognosis of patients with advanced gastric carcinoma followed by extended lymphadenectomy. There are many factors influencing their prognosis including disease stage, extent of lymphadenectomy, assistant therapy and so on. Conclusion It is significant for patients with advanced gastric carcinoma to undergo individualized extended lymphadenectomy and comprehensive therapy to improve their prognosis after radical gastrectomy
